Nancy Pelosi Faces Heat From Democrats After Georgia Loss

June 25 02:40 2017

Establishment Republican Karen Handel defeated Democratic novice Jon Ossoff after what turned into the most expensive congressional race in history, retaining a seat her camp has held since 1979 – and calming party jitters about the impact of the president’s troubles on local and national politics. They just don’t know how to make it happen. “We can’t just run against Trump“.

“We need to be focused on next November, and what happens with the reality of health care and trade, tax policies and the impact on working men and women”, said Rep. Debbie Dingell of MI.

And while Democrats have been on a losing streak lately – going down to defeat in all of the special congressional elections so far this year – she said that would turn around soon. Their action plan: Keep talking.

“The Democratic Party needs new leadership now”.

It’s about all they can do.

“I have no political debts to pay and my decisions will be made with one and only one consideration in mind – what’s best for the lives of my neighbors in the Lowcountry”, Cunningham said in a press release. “Democrats haven’t won there in 37 years”, he said of the former speaker of the House.

Though Ossoff pitched to moderates on the economy, ads from both sides focused heavily on his support of and Handel’s opposition to Planned Parenthood, and it’s fair to ask whether the more than $700,000 Planned Parenthood itself spent on the race hurt or helped its candidate.

“If we think we’re going to win these elections because President Trump’s at 35 percent, I think in districts like mine and certainly Georgia and SC, it takes more than that”, said Rep. Tim Walz of Minnesota. Are the attacks accurate? No. Why else would they have poured millions into a single house race and have all of the windbag liberal-leaning media outlets play it up so much?

But it’s also clear that many Democrats in the House, if not the large majority, don’t see it that way. “Time to stop rehashing 2016 and talk about the future”.

When he’s back home, Murphy said, he sometimes chats people up on a commuter bus, and “they are never talking about issues like Russian Federation”.

Republicans – including President Donald Trump – have professed their glee that she’s still minority leader.

Keeping Pelosi, in leadership since 2003 and formerly the first female speaker of the House, would actually be a boon for the GOP, former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich told “Fox & Friends” Thursday.

Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., who also attended the meeting, said, “in every corner of our caucus, we’re concerned”. We don’t have either one of those.

The losses are causing some Democrats to do necessary soul-searching and others to do unhelpful finger-pointing. Not this, we’re going to train you for some job that may or may not come down the pike.

She dismissed the members who have said it is time for a change as “blatantly self-serving” and “having fun on TV”.

“I love the arena”. I thrive on competition, and I welcome the discussion.
