The Senior Bowl is a game that only a select few are a part of but many have been dreaming of since they were little.

For the Heisman Trophy victor it’s more about how he goes about his business and carries himself this week than what he does on the field. He is projected to be a first-or second-round pick. But there are a handful of other signal callers who will draw attention too.

“It wasn’t a very deep group senior-wise”, said Phil Savage, executive director of the Senior Bowl. “Beyond that, I really don’t know the answer”.

For the Aztecs, Penny took over for the NCAA’s all-time leading rusher Donnel Pumphrey but made a name for himself by finishing fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting while becoming a consensus first-team All-American. Josh Allen came on board a week or so ago. I’ve watched the guy for two days and his accuracy seems pretty good for me.

2 – Stat leadersLast year the Senior Bowl had the top three receiving yardage leaders in the country.

We all know how prolific the duo of Mason Rudolph and James Washington has been at Oklahoma State the past couple of seasons. At the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., this week, Mayfield did his best to dispel the latter, while Broncos coach Vance Joseph said the former is no great cause for concern, either. The game will kickoff at 1:30 pm CT and will be televised on the NFL Network. He played well in his career at UNC and was one of the Tar Heels’ best players on defense. They could tailor their draft strategy to find more players who fit the scheme. He averaged 5.2 yards on the ground with 12 rushing touchdowns last season, but also caught 75 passes for 593 yards for another four scores.

Marcus Davenport, EDGE, Texas-San Antonio: Don’t be surprised if we leave here talking about Davenport as a potential Top 10 pick, like we did with Aaron Donald in 2014.

“There’s a lot of skepticism about what type of player I am and where I come from at the University of Wyoming”, Allen said.

Notable performances on the first day of practices include wide receiver James Washington, guard Will Hernandez, cornerback M.J. Stewart, Baker Mayfield, and Josh Rosen. As a junior he had 92-receptions for nearly 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns.

5 – Doubling upA pair of prospects already have a pre-draft practice week and game under their belts.

Likewise, Allen said it would be “fantastic” to learn behind Giants quarterback (whom he got to meet as a counselor at last year’s Manning Passing Academy) and that he would “soak up everything he does and follow him around like a puppy”.

Both teams will practice on Wednesday and Thursday. East and west is going backwards. Mayfield is listed generously at 6-1 in cleats. Allen does not have great stats – 1,812 yards, 56 percent completions, 16 touchdowns to six interceptions in 11 games in 2017 – but scouts point to him having the size and arm of an National Football League quarterback as reasons to love him.
