“Judd Apatow has a unique comedic voice that manages to be delightful, insightful, and shockingly frank – often at the same time”, Ted Sarandos, Netflix‘s chief content officer, said in a statement when Love was originally announced.
The show, “an unflinching, hilarious and excruciatingly honest take on modern relationships”, is created, written and executive produced by Apatow, following a “nice guy” (Paul Rust) and a “brazen wild-child”(Gillian Jacobs) as they navigate the cesspool that is dating in your twenties. Netflix ordered two seasons of the half-hour show, the same display of confidence the streaming service gave House Of Cards and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Besides, with a premiere tactically aligned to cushion those post-Valentine’s Day blues (or to fan the bliss), we imagine that the series will have no trouble finding an audience of its own.
Want more stuff like this? Not much. It’s a series of playfully racy New Years resolution-themed title cards that zoom by so fast you may have to pause to digest them all.
