A 2001 graduate of Brown University, Hayes, now 36, spoke with the Las Vegas Sun on Friday sharing his thoughts on Thursday’s Las Vegas town hall at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Symphony Park downtown and giving his insight for today’s Democratic and Tuesday’s Republican caucuses. Julian Batz, president of the Las Vegas chapter added “As a millennial Republican I expect more from my counterpart, and would hope that both the Nevada Democratic and Republican Parties will take steps to ensure that Miranda’s malevolent efforts are not tolerated”. “The Nevada state Democratic Party’s first-ever Military and Overseas Tele-Caucus is an example of our commitment to protecting and expanding the right to vote for every American”.
“That’s the rules that we were given”. In order to participate in the Democratic caucuses tomorrow, a Nevadan has to be a registered Democratic voter.
After a chapter of the College Republicans encouraged GOP voters to take advantage of a loophole in the system and vote in both caucuses, Nevada Democratic Party leaders have threatened to prosecute anyone that attempts to vote twice. Democrats are allowing same-day registration on Saturday. “We don’t want people just changing back and forth”, said Khan. Their presidential delegates are divvied up during the caucuses, leaving the publicly-funded May primary an after-thought. “It’s really, really, good”, said Reid.
Like most caucus states, the process in Nevada is complicated and at times confusing. Despite being considered close to home turf, as The New York Times put it, for Mitt Romney due to its high Mormon population among GOP caucus goers, he wracked up just 16,486 votes.
Erika Washington, Nevada state director for the nonprofit advocacy group Make It Work, says working parents in Nevada face outrageous costs. “And if people are found doing that, we will bring it to the attention of the proper authorities”.
Any voter may participate in either caucus (not both) and that same party’s ballot in the presidential primary. So the democratic party says there’s no way to tell if someone is maliciously voting, and it’s open to anyone wanting to participate.
Democrats will use only their precinct caucuses on March 26 to decide delegates who will be allocated to their presidential candidates. And they also pointed out that their caucus day was on a weekend, unlike Republicans, who are holding their caucus on a weeknight. Clinton narrowly won in Iowa and Sanders won in New Hampshire.
The DNC said approximately 90 individuals signed up for their “tele-caucus” in Iowa, and a similar number signed up for Nevada.
“It allows people to meet and get to know their Republican neighbors. The Republican Party has long decried voter fraud, but with this latest scheme they are now encouraging it“. And what I have seen with all the unions is that you have members who, regardless of who their union choose to endorse, ultimately want to exercise their own judgment and want to vote for the person they feel is best.
Washington’s 47 votes at the Republican national nominating convention are allocated so that three follow the vote in each of the state’s 10 congressional districts the others are determined by the statewide vote.
