Governor Rick Snyder has scrubbed plans for an economic development trip to the Middle East, so he can remain in MI to deal with the Flint water crisis.
Snyder said that General Motors’ concern “was not a lead issue”.
Mayor Weaver also stated that she told Governor Snyder that Flint residents should not have to pay for water “they have not, and are not using”. The contamination led to thousands of children being exposed to high levels of lead. “Because they could be affected”.
“Flint residents were betrayed by the very people paid to protect them”, Edwards says.
Another $8 million will cover the cost of bottled water being given to residents until the water is declared safe to drink.
Still, officials could not give a timeline on when people would be able to turn on their taps.
The complaint, filed Wednesday, says service lines from water mains into homes should be replaced at no cost to customers. The phosphates will build a protective coating within the pipes over time, he said.
The matter has been discussed on social media, particularly by filmmaker and Flint native Michael Moore. A spending bill pending in the state Senate includes $3 million to help the city with unpaid water bills.
In the near term, the state will continue to focus on recoating service pipes to control lead leaching. “This is squarely in his lap”.

Schuette says appointing the special counsel will prevent conflicts between him, his investigation team and the team defending the state against water-related lawsuits. Professor Marc Edwards also was appointed by Snyder to a committee that will set in place long-term solutions.
“We deserve more resources and finances as a result of what happened”, said Mayor Weaver in a press conference on the water crisis.
Port Clinton’s city council, whom met in council chambers at city hall on Tuesday evening, heard from water quality supervisor Eric Petersen on the state of the city’s water and eased anxious minds about testing procedures and any risks.
After the switch, residents complained their water had problems, and high levels of lead were found in the water supply.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday expresses doubt about whether the city can maintain optimal corrosion treatment when it switches to another new water source later this year. About 15,000 are estimated to be made of lead.
The Michigan Civil Rights Commission said Tuesday it will investigate whether discrimination played a role in Flint’s water problems as the national leader of the NAACP said the residents of Flint may have been ignored because many are minorities.
Environmental and human rights groups are suing Flint and MI officials, saying they aren’t doing enough in response to the city’s drinking water crisis.
