The New York Yankees have announced first baseman Greg Bird will undergo surgery tomorrow to fix a right labrum tear.
Bird initially hurt his shoulder last May while in the minors, and felt discomfort again this offseason.
Bird is scheduled to have surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery on Tuesday. He ended up being diagnosed with a torn labrum. After the most recent evaluation doctors recommended that Bird have surgery. “Once he started having his baseball activities this winter, especially with ramping up in these most recent weeks, the pain returned”. Torreyes made his major league debut a year ago with Dodgers, going 2 for 6.
In 46 games last season, Bird hit. 261 with 11 homeruns and 31 RBIs, via ESPN. Bird was also expected to be available in the event Teixeira were to go down with an injury (the veteran has played in only 249 games over the past three seasons). Yankees general manager Brian Cashman ended that speculation very quickly on Monday and said that the team would not pursue a free agent first baseman or trade for one and would use utility player Dustin Ackley as the backup to Teixeira.
