Newton sacked 5 times, still leads Panthers past Rams 13-10

But on Sunday, in the Rams’ first game at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in almost a month, a crowd of 86,109 made that almost impossible.

At this point, firing Fisher sooner rather than later may end up working out well for both parties as it’s clear the Rams could use a fresh start at head coach.

Only for the stubborn Fisher to say he didn’t hear the fans’ chants after the Rams dropped their fourth straight game Sunday, and along with it any legitimate hope of winning their division and making the playoffs. “I’ve been through that before”. By the time I realized it got to me, it was right in my chest.

The Coliseum crowd chanted “We want Goff!” during the first half of another dispiriting offensive performance in the Rams’ return from their bye week.

Fisher said Keenum still is the best person to lead the sputtering offense.

“I’m just happy we won the football game”.

“We’ll circle the wagons with the coaches and look at the tape”, he said. Keenum threw four interceptions in his last game, a Week 7 loss to the Giants.

A point Fisher continually misses when rationalizing the decision to stick with Keenum by insisting his play isn’t to blame for the Rams’ 3-5 record. Goff is their last card to play.

“I’m glad the fans care”, Keenum later said. He was 27 of 46 passing for 296 yards with the touchdown and interception. And most recently I have reached out to the commissioner, and he has responded, and we’ll continue to work through this and see how it goes. When asked if he would protect Newton from any questionable tactics by the Rams, Turner said: “And myself”. “In this locker room … we stick together as one, play as one”. “It’s not a Todd thing, it’s not a personal thing from Todd”. You just got to focus on each opponent. Toss in 10 penalties for 109 yards, and the team just isn’t performing well at all, and it’s clearly lacking discipline.

Greg Zuerlein redeemed the Rams by kicking a 25-yard field goal, putting the team on the board finally, with 8 minutes left in the game.

Just as Kendricks turned, the ball hit him in the chest and bounced to the ground. The ball was thrown in a good position.

With two straight wins after a four-game skid, the Panthers (3-5) are showing signs of contention – at least on the defensive end.

Zuerlein was a question mark coming into the season after he made only 20 of 30 field-goal attempts in 2015.

Keenum gave the Rams a chance, however, throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Britt with 34 seconds left in the contest and cutting the Panthers’ margin to three points. “It’s one of those scary things”. So, duh, this is going to be a game you can’t miss!

Case Keenum was okay, but the Rams couldn’t get anything going on offense and their defense had to suffer as a result again in the 13-10 loss.

The first eight games of the season have been quite a rollercoaster and there is no telling which Rams team will be showing up on a week-to-week basis.

On Sunday, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton managed to pass for his team’s only touchdown, but that was enough against a Rams team whose offense ranks among the NFL’s worst.

Newton complimented the Rams defensive line. Los Angeles could have its hands full against another top-five rushing offense.

The Panthers struggled all afternoon with the Rams’ defensive front. The program generated more than $200,000 in its first four seasons, a team official said.

If the Rams hadn’t shot themselves in the foot or kept their below average quarterback in the game, the Panthers may not be leaving L.A. with a win.
