But when it was the Panthers turn to field questions from the media on Monday at SAP Center for Super Bowl Opening Night, most of the eyes and ears in the arena were geared toward Cam Newton and the standout members of its defense, few on the receivers.
But prior to his death, the 22-year-old decided that he was going to make it his mission to get Newton to autograph his Panthers jersey for him. “I don’t get it. I don’t know what you guys want to know, man, but it is what it is”. “It’s an issue for you”, Newton said in a calm tone.

“Then he goes upstairs and takes it to the coaches when they’re game planning he’ll say, “hey look, these are the things that I see?”
Scot Sieczko’s mother Trae Sieczko wrote a letter to the Panthers saying he was a “HUGE Cam Newton fan since his days playing at Auburn and was a Panthers fan for that same reason”. They see a guy who went a different route than just going to a major Division I school and flourishing there. That is the kind of guy you want to help get a ring on his finger.
Newton reminded that he’s living out a childhood dream being in the Super Bowl.
“I don’t think this team needs any extra motivation, ” he said. I know I wasn’t a big fan of his when he first came out of college, but I think he has matured and that people are just jealous of his skill. I think everyone has been giving him a hard time because they don’t like seeing him so successful.
“He’s by far the most risky offensive player in the league because he can now run with the football”.
