No Powerball winner, jackpot may reach $1.3 billion

Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, told NBC News’ Today on Sunday that he was surprised at the lack of winners.

Powerball recently changed its drawing setup.

“No Powerball jackpot victor”, the Texas Lottery announced on Twitter hours after the numbers were drawn.

No matter the potential winnings, the odds of getting all six numbers remains 1 in 292 million.

It’s all but certain to grow before the next drawing Wednesday as others buy tickets for their chance at quick riches.

That percentage could rise if the jackpot estimate is increased before the drawing. Cripe says 75 percent of all combinations have been bought.

The US jackpot was first set at 40 million dollars (£27 million) on November 4.

“I’m going insane! I can’t take it anymore!” she said, burying her face in her hands but giggling uncontrollably as she turned to a line of customers. Tickets must be bought with cash only. Powerball signs can’t even fit the new estimated jackpot.

The record jackpot lured an unprecedented frenzy of purchases. By Saturday’s drawing, the amount was almost $950 million. More ticket sales also make it more likely there will be a victor, as all the extra tickets mean more number combinations are covered.
