Nokia returns with the Android-powered, China-only Nokia 6 smartphone

January 10 15:35 2017

Nokia finally announced its first Android smartphone, called the Nokia 6, on Sunday.

While Nokia was once the most popular mobile phone producer, it has struggled in recent years and was subsequently purchased by Microsoft in a costly $7.2-billion deal.

For the first time Nokia shows off about their launch after so many leaks. It will be launched exclusively on China’s JD.com at roughly Rs.16,750 and according to reports marks Nokia’s first launch in a series of other Android models for worldwide markets in the first half of 2017. At the moment the company is targeting China, as they believe that there are a lot of growth opportunities, as the Nokia brand name will resonate with the consumers. Some of you were probably underwhelmed when the Nokia 6 became official, that a midrange phone will be Nokia’s first phone out in the market. The Android Nougat phone will have a 5.5-inch full HD screen of an unspecified resolution, 2.5D Gorilla Glass and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset that Qualcomm itself describes as designed for affordable, mid-tier devices. To achieve flawless audio function, the Nokia 6 has a Dolby Atmos installed for its speakers. The good news is that the device is running the “latest version of Android”, which is now Android 7.1, has a unibody design that’s “milled out of a single piece of aluminum”, and offers a nice-looking 5.5-inch display with HD resolution.

Talking of the camera, the device will ship with 16 Mega pixel rear camera and an 8 Mega pixel front camera for selfies reports GSMArena. There are better and newer processors available in the market like the Snapdragon 600 series and 800 series. Additionally, the device hosts 4GB of RAM memory and 64GB of built-in storage. Unfortunately, the company did not say if it plans to release the Nokia 6 in other markets, so it might end up being a China-exclusive model. The firm has surprised us all by making its first Nokia smartphone available in the first quarter itself.
