North Carolina captures trilogy game over rival Duke

Like last season the Miami Hurricanes enter their ACC Tournament showdown with North Carolina off a win in the teams only meeting of the regular season.

In Saturday night’s final, North Carolina (25-9) faces top-ranked and top-seeded Virginia, which eliminated No. 19 Clemson 64-58 in the first semifinal.

Bagley has 10 and 6 for Duke, and Gary Trent Jr. has 9 points.

Though No. 12 North Carolina’s win over Syracuse in the second round of the ACC Tournament lacked late drama, it did provide a classic Roy Williams/suit jacket showdown. We can’t assume that we have an extra day because one loss and we’re back home and we don’t get to come back, practice a little bit more, come back and play in this tournament again.

The Blue Devils were the standard-bearers of the one-and-done-rule, Marvin Bagley leading a quartet of freshmen who are using Duke as their lily-pad on the way to the National Basketball Association. Past year at this time the same schools met in the same game.

Barclays is also set to host the NCAA Tournament East Regional in 2021. Duke has yielded the second-fewest points among major conference teams since February 10 (Virginia, 54.2). Allen finished with 23 points. Jay Bilas, who played basketball for rival Duke and now serves as an analyst and commentator for ESPN, is a prime example of that. This is one of the best situations we could’ve asked for in the ACC title game and I’m tempted to take North Carolina if we get enough points as I anticipate Virginia being the favorite, but I need to see a line before making that final call.

“You know, a year ago we lost this game that’s going to be played (tonight)”. I think we have a chance to do well in the tournament. UNC has played three good halves against Duke and had one really bad one.

Brooks went down hard and stayed down in the backcourt as North Carolina scored. Dr. Brad Raphael would likely perform the surgery after Syracuse officially ends its 2017-18 season.
