North Korea says don’t mess with us as US plans next move

April 22 00:13 2017

North Korea did not refer to specific developments but said the USA and its allies “should not mess with us”, according to a report in the official newspaper Rodong Sinmun.

North Korea is an impoverished, isolated and unstable country.

America’s vice president has delivered another stark threat to North Korea, declaring that the time for “failed dialogue” is over.

The 15-member United Nations security council condemned North Korea on Thursday for its latest missile test on Sunday that failed and demanded Pyongyang to stop the nuclear tests. The North also tried but failed to launch what USA and South Korean officials said was a medium-range missile.

It would also demand an immediate end to the North’s nuclear and missile tests, threaten to take “further significant measures” – United Nations code for new sanctions – and state that North Korea’s illegal activities “are greatly increasing tension in the region and beyond”.

That’s not all, North Korea also regularly threatens Japan.

“All of the pundits are saying they never have seen China work like they’re working now” to address North Korea, Trump said.

The comments dash the hopes of Japanese policymakers, who have said they want to avoid use of the economic dialogue as a forum to discuss a bilateral FTA that may put them under USA pressure to open up highly-protected areas like agriculture. With no U.S. Trade Representative yet in office and other key negotiator positions still unfilled, such nitty-gritty discussions will have to come later.

China has recently shown “tangible indications” that it is co-operating with the U.S.to turn up the pressure on Pyongyang, a senior State Department official said Monday.

United States officials said there was a higher-than-usual level of activity by Chinese bombers, signalling a possible heightened state of readiness by Beijing – reclusive North Korea’s sole major ally – although the officials played down concerns and left open a range of possible reasons.

The condemnation eventually agreed by the council included the words “through dialogue” and said the council was prepared to consider further sanctions.

South Korea and the United States have also been conducting annual joint military exercises, which the North routinely criticises as a prelude to invasion.

“We will not rest and will not relent until we obtain the objective of a denuclearized Korean Peninsula”, he said.

The Donald Trump administration has already hinted at military retaliation similar to the missile attacks on Syria against chemical attacks allegedly carried out by President Bashar al-Assad government.

Pence struck a stern tone as he began talks with Abe and other Japanese leaders after arriving at a US naval base from South Korea.

The following day, Trump tweeted that he “had a very good call last night with the President of China concerning the menace of North Korea“, But Xi in Beijing said that he had urged Trump to seek a “peaceful solution”.

And when asked what he plans next, President Trump said, “Wait and see”.
