For QB Sam Bradford, it’s just another step in a freakish season.
The Vikings have longtime coordinators Tony Sparano and Pat Shurmur on the coaching staff as position coaches.
“I was very surprised”, Zimmer said quietly. “We sat and we had a long conversation”.
Head coach Mike Zimmer had asked Turner to take care of his attack when he was appointed in office, in 2014.
The Vikings watched all of Bradford’s tape after Teddy Bridgewater’s devastating knee injury late in the preseason.
“It was (for) personal reasons”, Zimmer said, “and I’ll keep them between me and him”. On Wednesday, Turner told ESPN’s Ed Werder that he and Zimmer “have different views of where the offense was going”. Turner’s son, Scott, remains as the Vikings’ quarterbacks coach.
So, I will be optimistic and talk up Shurmur. Zimmer said he’d had vision trouble for a couple of days before scratching his eye during the game Monday in Chicago.
“We’re trying to make sure we’ve got the correct combinations, trying to make sure that we do the correct things in order to help them”.
Last season, Shurmur had Sam Bradford as his quarterback, and his input helped Vikings general manager Rick Spielman make the emergency trade for Bradford on September 3 after Teddy Bridgewater was hurt. He said that Turner had nearly complete control of the offense, but was set in his ways and chose to leave for personal reasons. Add to that a new quarterback in Sam Bradford having to adapt to a new system, and you have a recipe for disaster. His Eagles offense ranked fifth in total yards and third in total points that year, giving Vikings fans hope he can find numerous same results with a familiar face at quarterback in Bradford. “I think we have to figure out a way to bring the number down”.
“Hopefully it’ll be a positive”.
“Obviously, he’s seen a lot of football”. I had no indication that this was going on. He has always been a strong offensive coordinator. “They controlled the game and controlled the tempo of the game”. Zimmer said he will “have to see as the week goes” whether Sirles could be put back in the lineup in place of Clemmings.
We will update this story as more information becomes available. Coupled with the strength of the defense, it was enough to get the Vikings to an 11-5 record and a playoff bid in 2015.
Bradford, of course, has endured quite a bit professionally this season.
Minnesota started (5-0) this season. Bradford said he has a good relationship with his new offensive coordinator. A new offensive coordinator doesn’t change that, either.
On Detroit’s side of things, expectations haven’t really changed.
