Nuggets hoping for a lot of luck at National Basketball Association draft lottery

May 15 23:45 2018

Tuesday night is the NBA Draft Lottery and it’s a day many Bulls fans have been waiting for since last year’s NBA Draft, in which the Bulls made a decision to trade their franchise player, Jimmy Butler.

And he hasn’t slowed down in the year since, playing at an all-star level in Europe for Real Madrid, where he’s continued to both win and put up unmatched numbers for a player his age. With Danny Green’s underwhelming offensive stats and potential free agency, along with Manu Ginobili’s future in doubt and Bryn Forbes’ restricted free agency, San Antonio might be almost empty at the two position. The Suns allowed 113.3 points per game, three more points than any other team (a couple of examples of how brutal the defense was, here and here). The Phoenix Suns will pick first overall and will likely select DeAndre Ayton or Luka Doncic. For now, let’s focus on three key reactions to the Sixers landing the Lakers pick at No. 10 since there’s plenty to discuss, especially when looking at this year’s talented class.

The Nuggets have never selected at 14 and the 14th pick has never moved up in the Draft Lottery in the 13 years of its existence. Chance for top-three pick: 29.1 percent. Just because a player declares for the draft doesn’t mean there is an expectation of being drafted.

It’s even possible, albeit unlikely, that the Philadelphia 76ers, who own the Los Angeles Lakers’ pick, could wind up with another top overall selection.

Los Angeles Clippers first-round pick: Celtics receive this selection if the Clippers make the playoffs next season because it’s top-14 protected.

Stay with me here, because this can get convoluted in a hurry. It is the first time in team history that they will make a selection with the No. 1 overall selection.

Getting the top pick should produce a player that will take the Suns out of their 2,911 day drought of a postseason game. With needs at both center and point guard, two of top players in the draft have some type of familiarity with the Suns. It’s confusing, but the point is: the Celtics are stacked and only getting more talented.

The idea of pairing Sexton’s scoring ability and quickness with Ben Simmons is probably too enticing regardless of what Philadelphia has returning at the position. Soon the Magic would wither away in National Basketball Association purgatory-making the playoffs consistently, but with no real shot of winning a title-until another lottery win in 2004 nabbed them Dwight Howard. The most likely scenario has the 76ers ending up with the No. 10 pick at 87 percent.

Lil’ Penny, in case you don’t know, was a miniature version of then-Magic star Penny Hardaway voiced by Chris Rock that starred in a series of hilarious Nike commercials. There sure are a lot of people that get struck by lightning.
