The entire state has been classified as under a winter storm watch as of Sunday afternoon, a National Weather Service alert shows.
A blizzard warning has been issued for Long Island ahead of a major nor’easter that could bury the region in up to 20 inches of snow, forecasters said.
Southern Rhode Island and coastal MA could possibly receive those blizzard conditions.

“We will continue a cool trend into next week”, Walsh said. But the chilly weather and snow some areas received Friday may prove to be just a teaser.
A low pressure system will begin to form off the southeast coast and rapidly deepen as it tracks northeastward overnight Monday and, as of now, passing south of Long Island and near Cape Cod on Tuesday. Although D.C. will get its share of snow, the damage will be a little less compared to the Northeast areas which will be directly hit, according to reports.
Snowflakes will start to fall in the tri-state between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Airlines have cancelled more than 2,000 flights scheduled for today and tomorrow as they prepare for the storm, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
By Thursday, it’s expected to be partly sunny again, with temperatures rising above freezing in the day. The heaviest snow and highest winds are expected through the morning and early afternoon tomorrow. The storm dubbed “Winter Storm Stella” is expected to drop up to 2 feet of snow in Boston.
New York City has seen significantly less snow this winter compared to past year.
