The Daily News and New York Post have both reported that Newman was accused of giving a 22-year-old patient so much morphine she began to pass out on January 11.
David Newman was ordered held on $50,000 bail or $150,000 bond after turning himself in on Tuesday.
The patient then saved the blanket Newman allegedly used to wipe semen from her face as well as a hospital gown that she used to wipe remaining ejaculate. When the pain persisted, she was administered morphine.
According to the Daily News, the patient said that “Newman started fondling her breasts” when examining her right side and then “moved her bed away from the wall and positioned himself with his back toward the patient”. After a technician took her X-ray photos, Newman entered the room and told her he was going to give her a shot of morphine, even though she told him she had already been given one.
The hospital confirmed to the newspaper that is it aware of the allegations against Dr Newman, who has reportedly been barred from seeing patients while the investigation is conducted. Mount Sinai released a statement saying Newman has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
However, Dr. David Newman has been heard from extensively in recent years in a variety of forums.
A criminal complaint says that the woman regained consciousness during the incident but wasn’t able to stop the doctor because she had been incapacitated by the powerful narcotic.
The incident was reported to police the following day. “The health and safety of our patients are of our utmost concern”. She was later roused by a nurse and another physician, went to the hospital bathroom, and stored her hospital gown and bedding in a plastic bag to preserve the evidence. “This is a matter under investigation and we are fully cooperating with the appropriate authorities”. In 2005, he was deployed to Iraq where he received an Army Commendation Medal.
A top doctor who allegedly ejaculated on a patient’s face while she was heavily sedated has been accused of sexually assaulting a second woman, it has emerged.
Some Mount Sinai employees were upset by the news.
