Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has learned his lesson from the previous United States presidential election campaign.
It has been suggested that the disinclination to meet may be partly due to the Israeli prime minister’s eagerness to travel to Moscow for talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas while USA -led peace efforts have been rebuffed. The Netanyahu video has provoked extreme reaction and left The White House fuming.
In his controversial video, released on Facebook and Twitter Friday, Netanyahu decried what he said was a PA wish for the West Bank to be free of Jews in a future Palestinian state, calling such a desire “ethnic cleansing“.
It is a historic fact that the Zionest state of Israel itself was built on the ethnic cleansing of Arabs and Palestinians from the lands and homes they lived in and knew for hundreds of years, further barring them from ever returning to it.
Referring only to “enlightened nations”, but in an apparent jab at the U.S., Netanyahu said it’s “outrageous that the world doesn’t find it outrageous”.
This was a heavy hint directed at Europe, but not only Europe.
“Settlements are a final status issue that must be resolved in negotiations between the parties”.
“There’s a phrase for that, it is called ethnic cleansing”, he said. After viewing the video clip that was circulated on social media, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau said at a briefing in Washington that the Israeli leader’s words were “inappropriate and unhelpful”.
“Mr. Netanyahu’s recent comparison of Palestinian citizens of Israel with its illegal settlers in Occupied Palestine is not only immoral, but a total departure from rationality, history and Israel’s obligations under global law”, he wrote. Dermer, one of Netanyahu’s closest associates, worked for Luntz in 1993. We’ll see, one of them or anywhere else.
“This clip”, said a high-level diplomatic source to Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity, “is a stab to the Democratic soft spot in general, and to Hillary Clinton specifically: the subject of settlements and the connection to human rights”.
“We are not as not isolated as the Israeli government is trying to show”.
In his video, Netanyahu asked: “Would you accept ethnic cleansing in your state? Netanyahu told the truth”. “This time, he drops heavy hints without leaving clear footprints”.
Zakharova said that “the most important thing is to pick the right timing”. The last clip is only one example.
Netanyahu is due to arrive in NY on September 20 for the United Nations General Assembly. And there is certainly no surprise that Israeli Arab leaders have voiced objections to the Benjamin Netanyahu video. The United States calls them “illegitimate” and “an obstacle to peace”.
Clinton’s near collapse at this critical juncture of her campaign is viewed in Netanyahu’s court as a real miracle.
Israel, for its part, says 40 Israelis have been killed over the same period. Netanyahu said. “Since when is bigotry a foundation for peace?” And he certainly does not long for that at all.
