‘Oculus Ready’ PC bundle preorders start next week with $1500 base price

If you’ve been eyeing the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, now may be the time to act. If you buy it in a bundle you get it for $949 – that’s saving $100.

When the price of the Oculus Rift headset was finally revealed to be £499 in January, some expectant consumers weren’t happy. More computers will be added to the program as time goes on.

All five models will be available for preorder through Best Buy, Amazon, and the Microsoft Store.

So what’s the actual savings of getting the bundle? The second is the ASUS ROG G20CB (model 2) with an Intel Core i7 6700, 16GB of DDR4, a Geforce GTX 980, a 1TB hard drive and a 256GB SSD for $1699 or a discounted $1599 when bundled with the Rift.

Asus, Dell, and Dell’s Alienware division are the first out of the gate with Oculus Ready branded systems. To put a cherry on this gaming sundae, the Oculus pre-order bundle will also include EVE: Valkyrie Founder’s Pack and Lucky;s Tale games. “Offer codes will appear on your order status page February 16″.

Now that full-blown VR Fever is upon us, many people find themselves in the regrettable position of having an under-performing PC. Buyers who bundle one of these PCs with a Rift will get a discount of up to $200 on the system’s regular price.

Consumers can also use the Oculus compatibility tool to check whether their current PC is ready for Rift. The Oculus Rift will hit the shelves on March 28, while the bundles are expected to start shipping out on April 23, according to Best Buy and Amazon. Importantly, if this price tag is true, it would mean that Sony has plans for the headset to take on the Oculus Rift, which has a price tag of $600. A Reddit user posted on the forum that he talked to a Sony rep who heard people talking about the price of PlayStation VR.

As for the rumored pricing of the PlayStation VR, the head mounted display (HMD) alone will reportedly be priced at $299.

Rift also includes the Oculus Remote. That omission is notable because Radeon has been a major VR proponent and supporter of Oculus.
