Ohio House committee approves 20-week abortion ban

December 14 02:13 2016

Rep. Bob Cupp (R., Lima), a former Ohio Supreme Court justice, said assumptions that the 20-weeks ban would be struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court are “at least exceedingly premature”.

The latest news about the incoming administration on our Tracking the Transition page.

Earlier this week, the Ohio Legislature passed a bill the would ban abortion once the fetal heartbeat could be detected, which typically takes place around six weeks after conception.

“These bans are a deliberate attempt to make abortion illegal in the state of OH”, said Iris Harvey, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio. A degree that would prohibit abortions at 20 weeks was also on the table.

The bill makes an exception when the life of the mother is in danger, but not for rape, incest, and anomalies in fetus.

OH state Sen. Charleta Tavares, a Democrat, told CNN that she, sadly, had to vote against the child abuse bill to stand against the “heartbeat bill” amendment.

The bill will now go to the house for a final vote Thursday before heading to Republican Gov. John Kasich for consideration. However, State Senate President Keith Faber said the bill was revived given the prospect that President-elect Donald Trump will appoint justices more likely to uphold restrictions on abortion.

Now: Kasich “must decide whether to sign them into law, veto them or let them become law without his signature”. By voting for the child abuse measure, you were also voting for the heartbeat bill though they were unrelated.

The newspaper reported that bestiality is now legal in Hawaii, Kentucky, Ohio, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyoming and Washington D.C.

Abortion rights advocates, left, protest in the State Capitol July 13 as anti-abortion rights supporters pass them in Austin, Texas. Just so we’re absolutely clear on this, banning abortion at six weeks is a disingenuous, scientifically absurd way to essentially ban abortion completely.

The North Dakota and other states’ heartbeat laws are controversial even among some pro-lifers, not because they oppose banning abortions but because they believed that it would be overturned and the state would be forced to pay abortion activists’ legal costs.

Unfortunately, that state of OH seems to already be reaping the benefits of the Republican takeover. It conveniently ignores the fact that many women don’t know they’re pregnant that early and punishes them for that biological quirk. When you protect the unborn I think it is a good thing. The 1973 Supreme Court decision ruled that a fetus is not considered in possession of the right to life until viability – the moment when a baby can survive outside of the womb.

Kasich has a few options: He can sign the bill or just let it sit on his desk for long enough.

A pure bestiality bill passed the Ohio Senate late last month with the unanimous support of both Republicans and Democrats.

“When enacted, this legislation will immediately begin saving hundreds of babies throughout OH, and be a part of a national movement that will save thousands of lives”, said Mike Gonidakis, the group’s president.
