On Tuesday morning, a 14-year-old boy in Cincinnati, Ohio, was killed after his father mistook him for an intruder and shot him in the neck.
According to his father, the teen, identified as Georta Mack, 14, left for school, but returned through the basement, unbeknownst to his father, said police. Police Lt. Steve Saunders said the father is being interviewed by police. I heard noise, so I went downstairs looking and he jumped out at me…. The man heard a noise in the basement and checked on it with a gun in his hand.
FOX19 reported that the father is undergoing police questioning, but that investigators believe that the shooting is accidental.
He then called 911 around 6.30am, according to WCPO. The woman fired only one round, police said, and the daughter later died at a hospital.
No names were released immediately.
The Hamilton County prosecutor’s office will review the case to decide whether the father should face any charges, Isaac said.
These types of tragedies are so horrific, theyre even unimaginable, Police Chief Eliot Isaac told reporters.
He said those who have guns in their homes should get training and make sure the weapons are kept secured.
