Barrett needs two total touchdowns to break the Big Ten record set by ex-Purdue star Drew Brees (95). The Terrapins will be out to pull off a big upset in a game televised on ESPN. Read on for staff predictions.
Ohio State and the Knights face off for the first time this year, but the former swept both matches last season. She also had to sit out last season when the Buckeyes went 26-8 and reached the NCAA Sweet 16. Barrett then took it in from 4 and added a 36-yard TD pass to Samuel.
Coming off of two defeats against Iowa and No. 1 Nebraska, the Knights are looking to amend what has been a tumultuous campaign. So much so that the Buckeyes worked nearly entirely on rebounding and defense this week in practice. The increased effort and intensity was noticeable from the opening tip, as the Buckeyes used a full-court press to bother the Dukes throughout the game.
Ohio State went on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes, in which four different players made crucial shots, to give the Buckeyes a 10-point cushion that never really diminished the rest of the way. A false start before the fourth-down play pushed Maryland back 5 yards, and Durkin settled for a field goal.
Durkin’s team has dropped four of the last five games, the lone win came over Michigan State a couple of weeks back. Maryland has to find a way to get itself back up for this game, but it obviously won’t be easy even at home.
TOP OF THE HILLS: The Terrapins’ offense relieves heavily on fifth-year senior quarterback Perry Hills, who reinjured his right shoulder at MI and is questionable for Saturday. The problem for Hills is a shoulder injury, however. The Terps have been beaten soundly by Michigan, Minnesota and Penn State this season. “We’ve had tight ends before that were dual-purpose guys, but he’s a tough one to defend”. The redshirt freshman will look to change that against a struggling Maryland defense. Buckeyes defensive end Sam Hubbard said. “They got me where I needed to be”.
Barrett’s favorite target is H-back Curtis Samuel.
Maryland (5-5, 2-5) lost four yards in three plays and punted to Samuel at the OSU 33 and he returned it 11 yards.
Another freshman to keep your eye on is Binjimen Victor.
The Ohio State Buckeyes (8-1) are coming from a 62-3 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Week 10. The Terrapins offense is top-heavy toward the run game and their defense is not particularly stout.
Make no mistake, this Terrapins team is not the same caliber as the Buckeyes. Ohio State has won the two Big Ten meetings with Maryland, going 1-1 against the spread in those two games. The Terrapins managed just 5 rushing yards and were 0 of 7 on third down.
Senior center Edward Alade put down a two-handed dunk as Navy tied the score at 35 early in the second half. Harrison is averaging more than seven yards per carry this season.
The Terrapins now sit at 10th in the Big Ten in points allowed (27.2 points per game) and 12th in yards allowed (430.2). However, Maryland is 20th in the country in red zone defense, holding opponents to scores within the 20-yard line on just 70 percent of drives. Maryland’s fresh off a 59-3 humbling at MI last weekend, and the Spartans might be the worst team in the entire Big Ten.
The No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes have found their magic numbers: 62-3.
Samuel scored three touchdowns in the first half, two on runs and one on a pass from Barrett, who rushed for two touchdowns of his own in the half. Maryland has battled injuries across their roster, most notably at the quarterback and running back positions. He also caught five passes for 74 yards and a touchdown. Noah Brown had 14 yards and a touchdown. Ohio State forced Maryland to turn the ball over on downs twice in the quarter, including on the first drive, leading to a Tyler Durbin field goal of 34 yards.
