Cole Miller, 18, was assaulted in a Brisbane mall early yesterday.
An emotionally wracked Mr Miller said Cole “struggled bravely in the intensive care unit at Royal Brisbane Hospital with family and close friends by his bedside since the incident”.
Legal aid representative for Daniel Maxwell, Tim Clements stated earlier today, “He’s voluntarily attended the police station to take part in an interview with police”.
Elite water polo player Cole Miller of Highgate Hill, 18, was left for dead when he was attacked while walking with a friend through Chinatown Mall in Fortitude Valley about 3.35am on Sunday.
The teenage victim of a random one-punch attack in Brisbane in the early hours of Sunday has died in hospital.
“Cole was a attractive young man with his whole life yet to be lived”, Mr Miller said through tears.
Mr Miller’s father Steven to provide a brief statement this afternoon.
Supported by Cole’s uncle Michael and aunt Alison, Mr Miller offered thanks to all those who had rallied behind the family.
Renata is a New Zealander who went to Manurewa High School according to his Facebook page and now resides in Brisbane.
The teenager’s death was the most tragic of reminders of the consequences a single punch could cause, Acting Inspector Armitt said.
Mr Miller was a talented young athlete and had represented Queensland in under-20s water polo.
“There could be no better advertisement right now as to why that campaign exists”, he told reporters.
Tributes have flowed on social media for the young life cut short.
Armstrong Renata and the other man charged over the attack were remanded in custody following a brief appearance in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
