Ontario Conservative MP Patrick Brown accused of sexual misconduct

January 26 06:13 2018

Windsor-West PC candidate Adam Ibrahim says he’s saddened by the allegations against his party’s former leader Patrick Brown. While he was promising a credible chance at victory over the Liberals, he was respected – but it’s never been clear whether the party’s institutional members would stick by him when the going got tough. But the brief calls gave little indication of the explosive events that were to follow.

“Earlier today, all three of us became aware of the allegations about Patrick Brown”.

Skinner’s statement said that he would be suspending his campaign and called on Brown to resign.

One woman alleged she was a student at a Barrie high school when she met Brown in a bar, returned to his home where she was served alcohol and claimed he then exposed his penis and asked for oral sex, according to CTV News.

Brown resigned early Thursday morning in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations that he denied, calling them “categorically untrue”. “He did not accept that advice”, the statement read.

“I’m confident the president of our party and caucus will convene an expedited process to elect my successor who I look forward to working with”.

Women’s advocates and political scientists are raising eyebrows over a Southwestern Ontario MPP’s staunch support of Patrick Brown. Brown even proposed her to join him at a bar that night. Brown attended the meeting where Minnan-Wong won Progressive Conservative nomination to run against Liberal incumbent Michael Coteau Don Valley East in the June election. On one side is the caucus, or much of it anyway, that wants to keep the choice in its own hands.

But at the end of a sad, troubling week, their challenges have just begun.

Brown has been leading in the polls as the province heads to the polls this summer.

But Walker said Brown has done the right thing by resigning.

When the second conference call started shortly after midnight, MPPs held their ground. Though Brown’s face is plastered on the front of the 2018 PC platform, his party is now scrambling to sort out who will carry the party banner.

“These allegations are false and have been hard to hear”, it said.

Premier Kathleen Wynne acknowledged this is not the first time that sexual harassment complaints have come up at Queen Park. He said he will stay on as an MPP “while I definitively clear my name from these false allegations”.

After the middle-of-the-night resignation, the Ontario PCs woke up on Thursday leaderless.

A spokesperson in Bailey’s office said he won’t comment further until after a planned PC Caucus to appoint an interim leader.

Rick Nicholls, Progressive Conservative MPP for Chatham-Kent-Essex, told Postmedia News Thursday that it was Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne – not Brown – who should have stepped down Thursday.

Speaking on the allegations, Coole expressed some skepticism, but said if they prove to be true, the now former party leader will have to handle them appropriately. He did not take questions from reporters while making a statement a few minutes before CTV aired the report in its 10pm Wednesday newscast.

“I think what we have to do is really, really focus and pick the person who we believe can gain the confidence of the people of Ontario and move forward as quickly as possible in a focused and purposeful manner”.
