“GAHHH! (Tatiana Maslany) WON AND I’M LIKE”, wrote Oscar victor Brie Larson, using crying face emojis to punctuate the tweet. Because of the subject matter, Maslany has to channel upwards of eight different characters, each with their own distinct personality, often with many of them in the same room. She plays a whopping six characters regularly on the series!
“We wouldn’t have a show without you guys”, Maslany said.
But amid all of the self-congratulation, one victor skipped the ceremony: Dame Maggie Smith (“Downton Abbey“), whose absence drew comedic fire from Kimmel when she won the Emmy for best supporting actress in a drama series. It’s easy to forget how many layers of performance Maslany puts on and then slips off like a silk robe, particularly when one clone disguises herself as another. After portraying seven characters in one season, you would think that the Emmys would take note – but instead, they left the should-be victor off the nominee list entirely. Forget the clones – that had to be the real television conspiracy.
And yes, Maslany does see the love and thanked Clone Club for their unwavering support.
The Netflix’s flagship drama had 13 nominations this year, but it walked away without a win at the Emmys, and Mr Spacey and lead actress Robin Wright are still awaiting their first wins for their roles. Kate McKinnon won Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, the first Emmy win for a “Saturday Night Live” cast member. Davis certainly deserved the accolades, but considering Maslany’s history of snubs, it was yet another sting.
But the Emmy buzz kicked off long before the show began with television’s biggest stars giving fans a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at their award show preparations. The Orphan Black star says this year’s Emmys feels much busier than last year’s awards ceremony and related events.
“We’re a smaller show and it’s really incredible it’s happened at the end of season 4”. The fifth season (which doesn’t have a premiere date yet) will bring to a close the story of Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany), Alison Hendrix (Tatiana Maslany), Cosima Niehaus (Tatiana Maslany) and. Lucky for Maslany that she got a chance to showcase her acting chops by playing all of those women.
