Oscars 2018: What to expect from this year’s ceremony

March 05 12:08 2018

Vonn was one of the early arrivals Sunday for the 90th Academy Awards and says being there creates anxiety on a totally different level than racing down a ski slope.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences chief Dawn Hudson said the academy, which bestows the Oscars, has actively sought to diversify its membership in recent years.

The biggest names in the world of movie-making will come together and root for their favourite actors, directors and films at the world’s most respected film awards function.

The Shape of Water” stars Sally Hawkins as a mute janitor who falls for a captive and abused amphibian creature, played by Doug Jones. Additionally, as sad as it is, Academy voters may not vote for “Get Out” because of its genre.

Actress: Frances McDormand, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri“.

The 90th annual academy award brings different twist and turns and of course the glam even as almost 7,000 members of the Academy of Motion picture Arts and Sciences reflect on 2017 in film.

Or that the only real race is for Best Picture, with the dreamlike “Water” – an homage to 1950s monster movies that contains a squirmy interspecies sex scene – facing off against the incendiary “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri“, which takes on racism and sexism with a visceral scorched-earth policy some filmgoers may find over the top.

That doesn’t prevent at least some Americans from expressing an opinion, though 60% have no opinion as to which film should be named Best Picture. After 14 nominations, revered cinematographer Roger Deakins finally won for his photography on “Blade Runner 2049”.

So, the other categories I have to predict are related to writing, first up is Original Screenplay.

Rachel Morrison, the director of photography on “Mudbound“, is the first woman ever to receive a nomination for best cinematography.Meryl Streep has increased her lead as the most nominated performer in history with her 21st nod for Steven Spielberg’s “The Post“.

Let me put it this way: “Water” has a domestic box office take of $55 million – far below the threshold for public awareness – while “Three Billboards” weighs in at $50 million. Along with the acting, much of the praise for “Missouri” went to its writing and it wouldn’t be a shock to see that get recognition.

I’ve not been around that long, nor can I say I’ve never missed a year of the star-studded show. This Oscars preview will provide predictions for the most honorable categories and the evening as a whole.

George C. Scott, who was noted for his utter distaste for the entire ceremony, was nominated for his performance as General George S. Patton in the film of the same name.

Later, Pixar’s colorful ode to Mexican culture “Coco” won best animated film as well as best song for “Remember Me”. Additionally, it doesn’t have vast competition at the moment. All eyes will be on who will win Best Picture.

Tomorrow morning, all movie buffs will be tuning in to see who takes home the golden statuettes for their exemplary work in 2017.

Although “Get Out” is my favorite of the Oscar-nominated films, I can not ignore just how handsome of a movie “The Shape of Water” is.

The red carpet is officially open for Hollywood’s biggest night as the 2018 Oscars is just hours away from showtime! Red Carpet coverage continues on ABC starting at 6:30 p.m. ET, with hosts Michael Strahan (Good Morning America), Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs) and Sara Haines (The View).
