“The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the largest girl-led business in the world”.
Girl Scouts of the US has confirmed that celebrities at the Oscars indeed did donate more than $65,000 in exchange for cookies at Sunday night’s event.
Even if the girls didn’t sell tens of thousands of dollars worth of cookies, the air time and experience of a lifetime was priceless.
One of the biggest controversies still swirling after Oscars night focuses on Chris Rock’s sale of Girl Scout Cookies during Sunday’s ceremony, as people are still trying to sort out what really happened. In addition to the Girl Scouts of Inglewood, California, getting the money from the planned comedy bit, Hudlin mentioned that it was a thrill for them to be at the show.
Did this year’s Academy Awards seem like a better advertisement for Chris Rock than the movies? “How come Mrs. Dunn wins every year?'” Rock said during the broadcast. “It would mean so much to my two little girls if we could beat Linda Dunn“, he said.
Carlson sent a letter to parishes last month announcing he’d disbanded the committee that served as a liaison between the Girl Scouts of America and the archdiocese for the past century, recommending pastors find alternative organizations for its girls, because the scouts support transgender and other LGBT civil rights.
Responding to Access Hollywood the day after (February 29th), Dunn said that she took the comment with the good-natured humour with which it was intended.
But with 90 million people watching the Oscars, she said, “you can’t buy that type of publicity for the Girl Scouts“.
“Therefore, I am asking each pastor that allows Girl Scout troops to meet on parish property to conduct a meeting with troop leadership to review these concerns and discuss implementing alternative options for the formation of our girls”, he wrote. “That was a wonderful thing that he did”. She revealed, “They are friends and go to the same school”.
