December 30 03:37 2016

Windy is the weather word for Thursday in St. Louis. The day will begin with a 25 percent chance of rain and elevate to 55 percent as the day progresses.

As of this writing, the leading bands of snow are knocking on the door of western New Jersey. “The exact amounts and location will need to be determined over the next couple of days as this storm system gets closer”.

Though it’s dry across most of New Jersey early this morning, that’s about to change.

Tuesday will see more showers with a high of 52 and a low of 38. Rainfall totals will probably end up in the quarter-inch to half-inch range. Allegany County is under a lake-effect snow advisory. Little or no additional snow accumulation.

Scattered snow showers are expected to begin Thursday afternoon before tapering off to flurries later at night. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. It’s already led to a gale warning to be issued on Lake Michigan.

The National Weather Service Lake Effect Snow Advisory means that Lake Affect snow is forecast to make travel hard in some areas.

Wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour are expected, with speeds reaching 50 miles per hour in some areas.

Temperatures will remain below freezing for the day with wind chills in the teens.

Winds stay up on Friday. The National Weather Service’s forecast also called for partly sunny skies in the morning before it gets cloudier in the afternoon.

The New Year’s weekend looks mostly quiet, albeit chilly. Then colder air will start to return to the region.

Temperatures should be in the mid-20s.
