Also today, Israel returned the bodies of four Palestinians killed on Thursday during two attacks in the southern West Bank.
According to the resolution, Israel placed “restrictions on the movement of faculty, staff and visitors in the West Bank to impede the regular functioning of instruction and university activities at Palestinian institutions of higher learning” and “routinely refuses to allow students from Gaza to travel in order to pursue higher education overseas, and even at West Bank universities”.
The conflict has killed 22 Israelis, along with an American and an Eritrean.
Officials say the Hamas terror cell was planning to use the Israeli hostage as a bargaining chip for freedom for Palestinian prisoners. The fourth, a Palestinian young woman, was killed hours later, after she allegedly sought to stab forces at a checkpoint in the West Bank village of Beit Einun, located five kilometers (3.1 miles) northeast of al-Khalil.
No Israelis were injured in either alleged stabbing attempts.
Following the destruction of their house on January 9, the entire Halabi family gathered around the ruins and took a selfie picture in which all family members are seen smiling and flashing the victory sign. “Muhannad didn’t die for a house that he lived in as a refugee from Jafa, he died for Jafa the city he belongs to”.
Commentators say the surge in violence has been fueled by the 2014 collapse of U.S.-sponsored peace talks, the growth of Jewish settlements on land Palestinians want for a state and Islamist calls for the destruction of Israel.
“Uvda” reported that an activist with the prominent Israeli human rights group B’Tselem worked with Nawi to set up a sting to lure the prospective seller to Palestinian Authority territory where he would be arrested.
“I hand them over, their photos and phone numbers directly to the Palestinian Authority security service”, Ezra Nawi, a prominent left-wing activist said as he was secretly taped. He was subsequently killed by an Israeli security guard.
