The Carolina Panthers listed seven players as questionable for Super Bowl 50, including linebacker Thomas Davis who underwent surgery Monday to fix a broken right forearm.
“There are some limitations”, Davis said Thursday.
Davis’ surgery included the installation of 11 or 12 screws and a metal plate, but he will probably wear either a splint or cast to protect the injury in the February 7 game against the Denver Broncos. “It was feeling a lot better today than it was yesterday, so I retaliated like, “If you want to try me now”.
It appears the Panthers will have Davis, one of their defensive stars, for Super Bowl 50. “I understand what that means and all the guys who played for him know what that means, and it’s not going to change”. He battled back from three separate ACL injuries in the same knee to reach the Pro Bowl and possibly play in Super Bowl 50.
With his right hand still fully functional, Davis plans on playing with a brace on his arm, similar to the one worn by New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, but not as bulky. His practice repetitions are likely to be limited, but Rivera echoed Thomas’ intention when he said “I’m not doubting Thomas”.
Andrew said it’s not a common injury on the football field.
“They kind of grabbed my arm like, ‘You can’t retaliate”.
His determination to play despite the injury is a topic of conversation in sports circles, but Panthers fans have always been aware of Davis’ tenacity. Andrew said. “That’s up to the doctor”. It doesn’t sound like anything would keep Davis from playing in this game.
Though he hasn’t been able to practice, local media reported Davis was on the field for warmups both days this week. However, with two weeks to heal, Andrew believes Davis can be effective for the Panthers defense.
