Pence to talk to conservative group at Trump’s new DC hotel

The United Technologies Corp. division that includes brands such as Carrier and Bryant will raise the amount it charges for residential and commercial HVAC equipment by as much as 5 percent, according to a company statement.

“It seemed like since Thursday, it was 1,100 then it was maybe 900, and then now we’re at 700”.

“For workers who have 40 years in and were getting close to retirement, that 40 weeks pay might look pretty good”, Jones said. Another 80 non-union supervisory jobs will also remain, while 350 research and development jobs were never in danger of being moved.

More than half of voters surveyed said they believe it’s acceptable for Trump and Pence to directly negotiate with private businesses.

United Steelworkers 1999 President Chuck Jones said he was optimistic when Mr Trump first promised to save 1350 jobs.

While Trump’s micro-dealing in the private sector was criticized by many Democrats and even some Republicans, most voters approve of a president taking such actions. “I nearly threw up in my mouth”. “I don’t know the details of the Carrier arrangement … but I think it’s pretty darn good that people are keeping their jobs in IN instead of going to Mexico”.

If Trump is going to spend five minutes on the phone with every CEO of every company that’s planning to shift production overseas, he’s going to be on the phone for many hours, because Carrier’s case is not at all unusual.

During his campaign Trump promised to “bring jobs back” to the USA, and said in April that he’d make companies like Carrier that offshore jobs pay a 35 percent tax. Carrier also agreed to invest $16 million in its in plants. “We have a very talented workforce in Mexico”, Hayes told CNBC’s Jim Cramer. Just like the economic recovery in the mid 1980s, tax revenue will go up, inflation will go down, and business will be booming in no time.

Hmm. So Trump is directing $7 million to a company that’s sending more jobs to Mexico than it’s keeping in the US; he’s relying on the opposite policy he promised to pursue as a candidate; and he’s exaggerating the number of saved jobs. It the Trump administration will always step in to prevent companies from transferring, it may politicize many business decisions.

“So are you for the 35 percent tariff?”

Draper Alumbaugh, who has worked at Rexnord for 13 years, said the company’s Mexico plan is pure corporate greed, since the company is profitable. In part its because they’re not all moving overseas.

“Nonetheless”, wrote ThinkProgress’ Ned Resnikoff, “the deal appears to have had its intended effect”.

But, to ensure jobs stay in or return to the United States, Trump needs to think more about incentives than deterrents.
