Pennsylvania Urged To Read Zika Virus Travel Advisories

While no outbreaks have occurred in the US, 31 Americans have tested positive for the Zika infection, which they contracted while traveling overseas, USA Today reported.

Nearly 2,000 pregnant women now have the virus, Colombia’s National Health Institute said, out of the more than 20,000 people infected across Colombia.

Although a direct causal relationship has not been established, a link is strongly suspected between Zika and thousands of children born in Brazil with abnormally small heads, brain defects and impaired vision.

The virus’ symptoms tend to be slight, and include fever, rash, pain or conjunctivitis. It was subsequently realized that one of the samples was infected by the Zika virus.

They prefer, instead, that patients look and listen to the clinic’s message and avoid the risk.

For that reason, the CDC is recommending that women who are pregnant or may become pregnant not to travel to the 24 countries where the disease is widespread.

Health officials are advising pregnant women and those planning pregnancy to adopt necessary anti-mosquito precautions, and consider deferring trips to areas with Zika virus transmissions.

Speaking in Washington, Fauci said the US government is taking the virus “very seriously” and preparing in case it should spread to the United States. The aedes aegypti mosquito is present in 19 of Peru’s 24 states, including parts of Lima, and was responsible for 180 cases of chikunguya since the disease first arrived in Peru previous year, he said.

Experts say most people don’t experience severe symptoms when dealing with the virus.

The World Health Organization has estimated that as many as 4 million people could be affected by the virus as it spreads in Latin America and the Caribbean to North America in the coming months.

The illness itself is generally mild, Taylor said.

“Given the closeness between Zika and dengue, the collective and individual prevention measures for both viruses are identical”.
