Peyton Manning is set to return to practice Wednesday for the first time in a month, but he’ll be a sideline spectator again Sunday when Brock Osweiler makes his fifth consecutive start Sunday at Pittsburgh.
Broncos coach Gary Kubiak has confirmed that Peyton Manning will resume practice on Wednesday, which could mean a very awkward situation is just days away from coming to a head.
Asked Monday for his plan for Manning this week, Kubiak said he wanted to talk to Manning first.
Shortly thereafter, it was reported that Manning had partially torn his plantar fascia and the Broncos named Osweiler the starter for the foreseeable future.
Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos beat reporter for Denver’s 9NEWS, writes that quarterback Peyton Manning suffered a minor setback in Friday’s practice at the Broncos’ Englewood team facility.
Manning was removed in the third quarter of that game and has neither practiced nor played since. We’re going to have to be really good this weekend.
Kubiak said Thursday that he liked what he saw from Manning after practices on Wednesday and Thursday. Manning returned to practice for the first time in a month earlier this week.
“I’d been having some symptoms that I’ve been dealing with”, Manning said.
There has to be some concern here about Manning’s foot.
“I know that his foot has been sore since we left Indianapolis” on November 8, Kubiak said. This didn’t appear to be a planned day off for Manning, so it appears his foot is still giving him some problems.
Osweiler, in a small sample size, has outperformed Manning, with a completion percentage of 63.5, 1,140 passing yards and five touchdowns to three interceptions, though he has been sacked 17 times. He is not expected to play this weekend-Brock Osweiler is still the starter, but probably not for long.
“I’m not going to sit here and try to play that whole game with the kid or the Texans or anything like that”, Pagano said.
“If you’re kicking field goals in the red area and you’re not getting touchdowns eventually it will come back to bite you and that’s exactly what happened on Sunday and that’s what we are working on fixing”. Kubiak has said previously that the training staff would monitor the quarterback’s condition and adjust according to his symptoms.
Though Manning has struggled this season, his offensive approach is arguably the most effective regular season system in National Football League history.
