Peyton Manning suffers setback in Friday’s practice

With Manning running the scout team, Brock Osweiler continues to get the first-team reps with the team’s offense.

Kubiak added that they are taking everything week-by-week and are committed to playing this Sunday versus the Steelers, when interim starting quarterback Brock Osweiler will be having his fifth start this season, replacing the recovering Manning.

Yet the very fact that Manning is back on the practice field means Kubiak won’t be able to deflect questions about a quarterback controversy much longer, especially as Manning’s workload is expected to increase in practices later this week.

Manning will travel with the team to Pittsburgh, and Kubiak expects that he will be on the sideline during the game, although he could sit upstairs.

“I’ve got to see where [Manning] is at”, Kubiak said, via the Broncos official website. “He got in the grouping type stuff, got in the noise, so to speak, as we had talked”.

Manning has not played since November 15 when he threw four interceptions in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Manning was walking around after practice without any limp.

“You can’t let him stay in the pocket, he can make any throw there is making sure we bring a lot of pressure and bringing him to the ground and getting some good hits on him are crucial”, Ray said.

Until proven otherwise, I’m going with option two.

During the nine games that Manning started, the Broncos turned the football over 20 times.

Matt Hasselbeck missed practice Wednesday, yet Colts coach Chuck Pagano remains optimistic the 40-year-old backup will start Sunday’s crucial game against Houston.

Manning’s father, Archie, told WDSU in New Orleans the foot injury has bothered Peyton Manning for “five or six months“. “I had just gotten out of a team meeting, we’re doing some Pro Bowl voting and what I said was, as of today nothing has changed”, Kubiak said. “We thought he would be ready to go”, Kubiak said.

It doesn’t help me sleep better at night, but after seeing the 12 point performance against the Raiders, it got me thinking. While Gary Kubiak has not named a starter for the remainder of the season, he has a tough decision on his hands when Peyton Manning is deemed fully healthy. On Sunday, he hit career highs in attempts (51), completions (35) and yards (308), but the Broncos lost to the Raiders 15-12 and haven’t scored a touchdown in 23 consecutive possessions over the past two games.
