Polls: Clinton dominates South; Trump, Cruz scrap for Super Tuesday edge

March 01 20:01 2016

Trump’s rivals are scrambling to stop the billionaire businessman from becoming an “unstoppable” force in the 2016 presidential contest. Fortunes are revered in Texas where Ted Cruz garners 42%, giving him an eleven point advantage over Trump at 31%. Here is the list of “Super Tuesday” states in alphabetical order: Alabama (south) Alaska (northeast, Republican caucus) Arkansas (south) Colorado (west, Democratic caucus) Georgia (south) MA (northeast) Minnesota (north) Oklahoma (south) Tennessee (south) Texas (south) Vermont (northeast) Virginia (east) Democrats are also voting in American Samoa in the Pacific.

These delegates will in turn vote for their preferred presidential candidates during the Republican and Democratic conventions.

On the Republican side, Trump has won three straight – the New Hampshire and SC primaries, and the Nevada Republican Caucus – garnering 82 delegates.

Late Sunday, Nebraska’s Ben Sasse became the first sitting Republican senator to say explicitly that he would not back Trump if he does win the nomination.

“I don’t know anything about David Duke, OK?”

In criticizing Rubio, Trump said the Florida senator “had to come up with something because he’s getting creamed in the polls“.

Cruz soon responded on Twitter, telling Trump: “You’re better than this”. But under half the public overall agrees. But it’s not looking good for him anywhere, and that’s partly because his message-I am the electable nice guy who is an orthodox conservative-is badly wrong for this election cycle and actually not a great one for the candidate. “How are we going to grow the party if we nominate someone who doesn’t repudiate the Ku Klux Klan?”

This supposed “disavowal”, however, only served to underscore how odd it was that Trump would claim not to know anything about David Duke on Sunday, two days after he had rejected Duke’s endorsement. “That is not company I wish to keep”.

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Gabbard served as a vice chairwoman of the DNC and is the fourth member of Congress to endorse Sanders over Hillary Clinton, the Hill writes.

This year in the United States, March 1st is Super Tuesday, a key date in the primary elections of both the Republicans and Democrats.

Ted Cruz, who represents Texas in the US Senate, needs to crush Trump on his home patch to get a big share of the 155 delegates – the state works on a winner-takes-all system if a candidate gets the majority of the votes. Recognize that Donald Trump as the nominee means Hillary probably wins, and we lose this country. “It’s awesome what’s going on”, he told NBC, calling his campaign a “movement”.
