Powerball jackpot increases again to $1.5B on strong sales

Stores throughout the D.C. region said their sales of tickets for the record-setting, $1.4 billion Powerball jackpot – make that $1.5 billion – are skyrocketing on the eve of Wednesday night’s drawing. Lustig says sticking with your numbers time and time again will give you a better shot at winning.

Powerball mania is taking over the country as the jackpot increases to an astounding $1.4 billion, the largest prize in the game’s history. The first Maryland second-tier $1 million Powerball winning ticket sold in 2016 came Saturday and was sold on the Eastern Shore.

“Jackpot increased because of yesterday’s strong sales”, Kelly Cripe, director of media relations at the Texas Lottery Commission, said in a statement announcing the higher estimated payoff.

It was already the single largest lottery prize ever, and the hype has sent ticket sales skyrocketing – driving the grand prize higher still.

The jackpot is worth US$930 million if a victor chooses an immediate cash payout instead of annual payments over 29 years, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association.

“It’s an experience I’ve never felt before”, Dominguez as he claimed his prize on Monday at lottery headquarters in Clive. You have to pick both to win the jackpot.

Powerball tickets cost $2 each.

So, after spending the $584 million to win, you’d still be losing money.

Initially, Saturday’s jackpot was set at $675 million before growing to $700 million on Thursday afternoon and now $1.5 billion.

It’s 9:59 p.m., an hour before the 10:59 p.m. drawing at Universal Studios in Orlando on Wednesday night, according to the state’s website.

In the early going, fewer people were attracted to the smaller jackpots – and thus fewer number combinations were bought.

The $1.4-billion Powerball jackpot is so unusual that billboards and other signs around the U.S. have to advertise it as sitting at $999 million
