Powerball jackpot surges to $450 million for Wednesday drawing

The winning numbers are: 2, 11, 47, 62 and 63, with a Powerball number of 17.

Wednesday the K. J’s Super Store in Malad had a constant flow of people buying tickets hoping to be the next big victor, including a number of Utahns.

According to the Texas lottery executive director, this is the 6th largest jackpot in USA history and the 4th largest Powerball jackpot, Big Country residents were taking their chances.

If a victor is declared, the prize money will have a pre-tax cash option of $306 million in one take, or $500 million paid out over 29 years, after taxes. That’s right, you win half a billion dollars for you if your ticket matches all six numbers drawn on Wednesday night. The jackpot was the sixth highest amount it has ever been in North America, as well as the highest it has been in nearly a year. It hit $400 million over the weekend after another winner-less drawing on Saturday, and then hit $450 million on Tuesday.

Powerball is played across 44 states and the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The $500 million prize is based on an annuity.

The odds of winning the jackpot are one in 292.2 million, which means players are really, really, really unlikely to win. The largest Powerball prize was a $590.5 million jackpot won by a Florida woman in May 2013.
