President Trump bombed Syria. Here’s what your lawmakers are saying about that

The U.S. rationale that it had to respond to a Syrian chemical weapons attack on civilians was only a pretext for a long-planned missile strike, the Kremlin said.

But I think it’s not clear if this was a short-term, one-off strike by the USA president, and what really concerns me is that it is outside of worldwide law, it has gone around the UN Security Council.

Speaking one day after the US launched strikes against the Syrian airbase that was home to warplanes that carried out a chemical attack against civilians, the US Ambassador to the United Nations slammed Russian Federation for supporting President Bashar al-Assad.

The United States did not seek UN Security Council authorization for the military action that followed days of global outrage at images of dead children from the suspected sarin gas attack. “It is in…[the] vital national security interest of the United States“, the President said, moments after 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles launched from warships in the Mediterranean hit the Shayrat airbase. Dib said. “This American action, it’s a message, but not for Assad”. That changed fast. According to the White House, Mr. Trump was briefed on the chemical-weapons attack Tuesday, on military options on Wednesday and ordered the strikes Thursday afternoon.

In response to the attack, Russian Federation suspended an agreement with the U.S.to avoid mid-air collisions over Syria and called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

The deal is created to avoid clashes in the crowded airspace over Syria, with each side giving the other warning over planned strikes.

They targeted aircraft, aircraft shelters, storage areas, ammunition supply bunkers and air defence systems at the Syrian government-controlled facility, according to the Pentagon.

Rice isn’t the only Obama-era official who made self-congratulatory statements about removing chemical weapons from Syria. A statement from Assad’s office said the cruise missile strike was the result of “a false propaganda campaign”.

“On Syria, ladies and gentlemen, we are going to have to determine what is the end state we want“.

Senator Marco Rubio also supported the action. Assad ignores Russia’s requests for him to obey a ceasefire.

TRT World spoke with Simon Adams, Executive Director of the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, about the implications of the attack, and what may happen next. He called Trump’s missile strike “useless”.

The missiles destroyed six planes under fix and several buildings, including a storage depot and radio station, it said. A final cost would also depend on the size of the potential replacement order from the USA military, he said. “Once again we’re reminded that there’s no such thing as friends in business, especially with Washington, whose ill-conceived actions are even more detrimental to Russian-American relations”.

SA: What we do know is that the Syrian regime has operated in a climate of absolute impunity.

Russian Federation has some of its most modern surface-to-air missile systems at its air base in Syria and radars with a huge reach but, for whatever reason, they too have not deterred Israeli strikes.

Haley, who is also the UN Security Council president, added, “How many more children have to die before Russian Federation cares?”

“But I don’t think there’s any sense of that (expanded engagement) occurring right now”.

The White House promised the U.S.is well positioned to build a consensus.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s spokesman said on Friday, “The destruction of Sharyat air base marks an important step to ensure that chemical and conventional attacks against the civilian population do not go unpunished”.

The surprise strike marked a striking reversal for Trump, who warned as a candidate against the us getting pulled into the Syrian civil war, now in its seventh year.

Iranians shouted anti-US slogans after Friday prayers in Tehran in response to the missile strike on Syria.

“God willing, these strikes will be a clear warning to Bashar al-Assad, to tell him: Bashar, enough killing and injustice against these people”, said Abu Ali, a man in his 40s. Mr. Trump didn’t mention further military strikes when he spoke to the Prime Minister Friday morning.
