This year’s prom was the third that Northern Colorado churches have organized, under the sponsorship of the Tim Tebow Foundation, which counted proms at 540 churches in 16 countries Friday night.
The prom Friday was the largest ever held, with over 500 people in attendance, from the 145 guests each with a companion, to the 250 volunteers who help make this night a special one for those who won’t experience a school prom.
No one left empty handed, either.
This special prom night included a red carpet experience, horse drawn carriage rides, limo rides, being crowned “king” or “queen” for the night and of course, lots of great music and dancing!
Friday was a big night for those attending the Night to Shine event at Eastside Christian Church in Jeffersonville. The event came to Bakersfield for the first time this year.
The Northern Colorado Night to Shine has been growing since its first event in 2016.
“I’m good at it, too”, Redd said as she hit the floor when the song began. “Five-hundred-seventy-five churches are going to do the same thing and take probably over 80,000 people with special needs worldwide”.
Guests entered the dance on a red carpet with a warm welcome from paparazzi.
“You get to meet people with other disabilities”, said Ferreira.
“I think it will boost their confidence”, she said. At Mount Pleasant, the event is from 6 p.m.to 8:30 p.m., and 160 guests are expected; more than 300 volunteers will participate.
But Miller said the prom is the highlight of the annual calendar and the event people most look forward to. “I’m a parent and a member of the committee that puts this on and it’s just a phenomenal feeling”, explained Moates.
“Jesus says, “whatever you’ve done to the least of thee, you’ve done to me” and the Bible says we’re all fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God, so we get to see that manifested in all kinds of different ways tonight”, Howle said.
“They’re the same as us”, said Marquis Harris, a 21-year-old mechanical engineering junior at Marshall who volunteered to be a date.
It’s night that they will surely remember for years to come.
