Protests planned in support of ‘Making a Murderer’ subject Steven Avery

January 29 20:03 2016

Steven Avery is escorted into the courtroom Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, in Chilton, Wisconsin.

Demonstrators gathered on Friday outside the Manitowoc County Courthouse demanding a retrial for Steven Avery.

The case gained national attention after it was featured in the Netflix show “Making a Murderer”.

While the special will likely regurgitate a lot of the same facts about the circumstances surrounding Teresa Halbach’s 2005 death that the Netflix documentary series covered, ID promises to uncover some new information. It caught the eye of two graduate student filmmakers, who would spend the next decade creating Making a Murderer. The series, which follows Avery and his family, generated backlash from people nationwide who believe Avery and Dassey are innocent.

The special includes fresh, new interviews and rare footage of a sit-down interview conducted in 2005 with Penny Beernsten, the victim of the sexual assault case for which Steven Avery was wrongfully convicted. The hour-long episode is sure to get tongues wagging all over again, with additional interviews apparently including Brendan Dassey’s lawyers and prosecutor Ken Kratz. The rally is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
