Raiders Lose Carr in Victory Over Colts

December 25 11:55 2016

On a day in which Marcus Mariota broke his right leg, Carr’s blow would be an enormous hit to the Raiders. Del Rio did not have any timetable for a possible return for Carr this season, but said that his franchise quarterback is out indefinitely.

After Saturday’s win over the Colts, Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said Carr has already been ruled out for next week. He’ll have to play the rest of the way for this team, which improved to 12-3 on the season. There’s no me without those two guys. Latavius Murray snags a Carr dump-off pass and makes two guys miss with a lovely jump cut netting a first down.

Why watch: Barely, but the Colts still remain in playoff contention. He has directed 12 game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime in his career, including seven this season.

The Silver & Black will now go only as far as backup Matt McGloin takes them.

“Our MVP of the team, MVP of the league is hurt right now”, Penn said. But going into the game, the big worry was Indianapolis’ small, speedy receivers. We have to do it. We were going to beat the Steelers, Patriots and Cowboys in the playoffs and reclaim our seat at the head of the table. “The guys up front did a great job getting us to the second level”. If things aren’t settled in the final Week 16 results, then either a Raiders victory over the Broncos or a Chiefs loss to the San Diego Chargers in Week 17 would also give the division to Oakland. Leading rusher Latavius Murray rushed for a mere 40 yards on 15 carries.

“I feel like I failed my teammates”, Luck said.

Carr marched the Raiders 80 yards in six plays for a touchdown as running back Jalen Richard scored on a 4-yard screen pass with 18 seconds showing. “We had numerous opportunities and numerous chances”. But on third-and-eight, Vontae Davis went for an interception and didn’t get it, with Amari Cooper winning the battle for the ball, the 19-yard completion from Matt McGloin giving the Raiders the first down they needed to kill the clock.

The game came apart in the third quarter when the Raiders’ capped their scoring surge with a pair of 22-yard touchdown runs by DeAndre Washington. With injuries at other spots, Washington has gotten the chance to play the past few weeks and is making the most of it.

The Raiders took a 19-7 lead into the halftime locker room in part because of a pair of interceptions thrown by Luck, who finished 19-of-29 for 288 yards with two touchdown passes and the two picks. Safeties Reggie Nelson and Nate Allen each intercepted Andrew Luck. The Raiders capitalized on each with ensuing touchdowns.

The Colts trailed 13-7, but were driving near the end of the second quarter. The Raiders were ready for Indy’s trickery, and Darren Bates tackled McAfee for no gain.

His injury was the most crushing of the season, and not just for the Raiders – for all of the NFL.
