Rams RB Gurley wins top offensive rookie award

February 08 20:01 2016

Last night, ex-Dawg Todd Gurley received the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

If he comes back at 100 percent, Gurley’s rookie season may only serve as a prelude to an even bigger second season.

In 13 games, Gurley racked up 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns.

“Missing three games and then putting up the performances he did…” His 566 yards rushing in his first four starts are the most for a rookie in the Super Bowl era.

Gurley is the first Rams offensive rookie of the year since quarterback Sam Bradford in 2010, but the team has now gone back-to-back in rookie honors because defensive tackle Aaron Donald was the AP’s defensive rookie of the year last season.

“There might be kids out there pretending that they’re wearing No. 99 is literally one of the coolest things in the entire world”, Watt said.

Two candidates with Seattle/Seahawks ties – Don Coryell and Edgerrin James – were on the ballot for the Hall of Fame but also did not get elected.

While he is a favorite, that doesn’t mean there won’t be competition.

In the process, Cooper destroyed Raider rookie receiving records while having the most receiving yards by a Raider since Jerry Rice had 1211 yards receiving in 2002. The tandem of Carr and Cooper will be a risky one for years to come. His impact on the Buccaneers could be seen from the moment he stepped on the field. He beat out top overall draft selection quarterback Jameis Winston of Tampa Bay, who received 17 votes. He also ranked sixth in passer rating (99.4) while throwing for 3,837 yards.

His voice cracked with emotion as he mentioned coming back from his ACL injury. Seattle QB Russell Wilson did not get an MVP vote (which was conducted under the same format as the rookie of the year, which calls for each of the 50 voters to vote for just one person and not divvy up votes for 10 places or something).

While that is one downfall, it is probably his only downfall.

The NFL Honors show is Saturday night, and lots of guys in tuxedos and fancy suits will be honored for what they did in helmets and shoulder pads through the fall.
