The Baltimore Ravens have reached a three-year contract extension with quarterback Joe Flacco, the team announced Wednesday.
The former first round pick struggled with turnovers during the 2015 season prior to the injury, but the Ravens franchise clearly still believes he is the future of their organization, as it reportedly signed him to a three-year extension through the 2021 season. According to CBS News, the Ravens will save $6 million in cap space thanks to the deal.
If a new deal hadn’t been made, Flacco’s salary cap hit to the club this season would have been $28.55 million.
Ravens officials were expected to sit down with Flacco’s agent at last week’s NFL Combine to discuss restructuring the six-year, $120 million deal the veteran signed in 2013 that was set to run through 2018. This is also a good move for Flacco because he has always been a team player.
Flacco has been willing to work with the Ravens throughout the negotiation process, saying, “Come on, I want to win, so I want to do everything we can to get something done”. The Delaware product remains in recovery from a torn ACL, and has nine months from the surgery date (Dec. 8) to be ready for Week 1 of the 2016 campaign.
“On his shoulders stands the success of this organization over the last eight years”, Newsome said.
“My biggest priority is winning and going out there and being the best football player I can be over the rest of my career”, he said.
“I want to win”.
