Ravens let early lead slip, fall to Giants for third-straight loss

October 16 23:01 2016

The New York Giants desperately needed to make something happen Sunday afternoon in the second half at MetLife Stadium against the Baltimore Ravens. Manning was very inaccurate against the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers, unable to lead his team to much success. But the Ravens aren’t good enough to put anyone away right now. He had inside position on Breshad Perriman on a long pass from Joe Flacco and the Ravens receiver seemed to commit offensive interference. After three unsuccessful tries to punch it in end zone, West was brought down for a loss of a yard on fourth down.

Odell Beckham’s 222 yards receiving reinvigorated a Giants team that could have been buried. Baltimore went for it on fourth-and-goal from the 1 and linebacker Jonathan Casillas made a tremendous play to stuff Terrance West for a 1-yard loss on the first play of the fourth quarter. The Giants won their first two contests of the season before losing three straight. Coach John Harbaugh fired offensive coordinator Marc Trestman on Monday and promoted veteran assistant Marty Mornhinweg to replace him. “We held him down the first half”.

Leading up to the game Smith called out Beckham saying, “Give me your best shot, and I’ll give you mine”.

Beckham nearly cost the Giants, though, which seemed fitting considering the wild nature of the final minutes. On fourth-and-5 from the NY 39, Flacco threw an incompletion, but drew a late-hit call on Owa Odighizuwa, giving Baltimore a first down at the Giants 24 with 15 seconds to play.

More than midway through the third quarter, the Ravens had as many penalties (12) as first downs.

The Ravens could also be missing several starters on defense. The only player in Giants history with more yards in a game was Baylor’s Del Shofner, who had 269 against the Redskins in 1962.

After an interception slipped through Shareece Wright’s grasp, Eric Weddle made another sure tackle short of the sticks to force a punt. They opened the game without linebackers Elvis Dumervil and C.J.

The Giants got on the board with 2:28 left in the half on a 24-yard pass from Eli Manning to Roger Lewis.

Without Beckham, Manning and the Giants found their rhythm.

Suggs wouldn’t talk about how badly his left arm was injured after the game, but said he would have the injury checked out. That’s where we should have extended the lead, real simple.

The Ravens took over with less than six minutes on the clock and Kamar Aiken caught a jump ball on fourth down.

Because in a division with two rookie quarterbacks, the play of a two-time Super Bowl MVP was the biggest takeaway on this day, and the most promising development moving forward. Beckham didn’t break stride and went 75 yards for the touchdown. Jennings takes great pride in his physical shape and unique workout regime – at times he sleeps in a hyperbaric chamber – but he said he realizes this injury could not be prevented.
