Manchester United will attempt to overturn a 2-0 defeat when they face Liverpool in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie at Old Trafford tonight.
“We made our position a little bit better (in the first leg)”, Klopp said.
“When we play away they are fantastic”.
“We don’t fulfil the expectations and still they support this team and this manager”. We had a few seconds in the hotel before we came here (to Old Trafford) and everything is okay: the room is okay, the bed is okay.
Bastian Schweinsteiger is not deemed fit enough to start, so Marouane Fellaini – whose substitution on Sunday was cheered by disgruntled United fans – could continue his record of starting for United against Liverpool.
“I am absolutely optimistic [that my team will put in a good performance]”. Obviously I will miss the England games, but it shouldn’t be too long after that.
The Dutch boss said he was confident his side could score the three goals that would see them into the quarter-finals, but added: “In sport, you can lose and you can win; that you have to accept”.
Van Gaal opined that the home support and the atmosphere at Anfield played to the advantage of his opponents and would relish same from his Theatre of Dreams supporters. We want to fight always. That is an important sign for us.
“The world doesn’t change overnight”. Two times we played against them at home we won clearly, played better and were the better team. That is the truth. It doesn’t mean it will be easy for us. We have to work really hard. That is what is clear.
“It’s better now because it’s tomorrow, we don’t have to wait another five days for the game”.
“There are a lot of things to do”.
Nonetheless the tie will serve the fans plenty to look forward to and enjoy a big European night as United will rely on the past of their history of making comebacks. I can hear it in your questions. It was a situation with maybe different views. They are not so comfy playing here, in front of our fans.
“We have to believe in it. I have spoken only with the players about the victory“.
Herrera in response to the claims that the United players didn’t try against Liverpool said: “I don’t agree”.
“We don’t want to concede a goal. Hopefully we can do the business and do the same as last week tomorrow”.
Herrera admits United were poor at Anfield but denied the side lacked spirit.
