The new Mazda CX-5 will add a diesel engine in Canada (and the U.S.) by the second half of next year, the automaker confirmed today.
The emotional element was evident in the way light played off the CX-5’s subtle curves.
The new CX-5 adopts G-Vectoring which works to improve the whole cars responsiveness and stability when cornering, it also works to reduce the forces that work on passengers when cornering resulting in a lot of sideways movement. Although it’s simple, the system has been created to put weight over the front axle by gentling reducing torque when it detects a steering input, before gently feeding power back to the wheels on corner exit.
While it looks the same as the model which has become Australia’s most popular SUV since being launched here in 2012, Mazda says it has upped the refinement and changes just about everything other than the styling. Another welcome touch is the addition of Mazda’s Auto-hold system for its 4-wheel disc brakes – a feature that keeps the CX-5 stopped even after the brake pedal is released.
Boring cabin was weak point of previous CX-5. As expected, the revamped CX-5 takes more than a bit of inspiration from the current CX-9. The head-up display is now capable of delivering navigation info, while the 7-inch infotainment screen at the center of the dash has seen its resolution improved – and there’s a smidge more cargo room, too.
As such, the front body of the new CX-5 is now 10mm wider, to give the auto a better stability on the road.
Thanks to the use of high-strength steel, the CX-5 has 15.5% higher structural rigidity.
The fully redesigned CX-5 will come equipped with Mazda’s SKYACTIV 2.0- and 2.5-liter gasoline engines, as well as a 2.2-liter diesel engine.
New technology debuting in the vehicle will include a head-up display in the redesigned cockpit, while a powered tailgate will also be available.
The Riley Mk.XXX chassis, developed by Riley Technologies and Multimatic Motorsports, will be powered by the Advanced Engine Research-developed Mazda MZ-2.0-liter turbo engine, developing around 600hp. “As a recognized maker of vehicles that don’t compromise on performance or efficiency, Mazda’s SKYACTIV-D diesel entry to the US comes at a time of great significance and opportunity”.
