Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) campaign.
Former Texas Governor and two-time presidential candidate Rick Perry endorsed Sen.
Politico reports that people familiar with the conversation Cruz had with the 43rd president said Cruz had a whole list of things he would like to accomplish in a Bush administration. “Partly because of the time he’s going to spend in learning what he doesn’t know, but he’s also surrounding himself with people who are extraordinarily capable and wise”.
Despite getting no help from the GOP establishment, though, Cruz went on to win a slot as the Solicitor General of Texas, and then in 2012 went to the Senate from the Lone Star State. “That’s why we have elections, why we democratically select leaders”.
“He will defend our right to believe and live according to those beliefs”, Perkins said in a statement released by the Cruz campaign.
Perry, who gave up his own unsuccessful presidential bid in September after just 97 days on the trail, had been plagued by stagnant polling and lackluster fundraising.
Perry delivered the nod during an interview with POLITICO on Sunday evening.
“I’d rather see folks come together, work together to find solutions, but from time to time, you’ve got to lay the marker down”, Perry said. The latter sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2000. Trump was unhappy with another endorsement given to Cruz by President of the Family Leader, Vander Plaats.
Meanwhile the junior senator is the subject of a recently published video purporting to show an 18-year old Cruz musing about his life ambitions circa 1988.
The move marks the first endorsement from a candidate forced out of the Republican race. Perry was expected to campaign in Iowa for Cruz this week but details were not immediately known.
