David Bowie may have been the first, but a lot of people are calling Ricky Gervais “pug-nosed”, and much more, for comments he made during the Golden Globes.
Jenner was here in support of her E! reality series, “I Am Cait”, which kicks off its second season on March 6.
Appearing at the Television Critics Association event on Thursday to promote her TV show I Am Cait, Jenner was asked about some of the jokes Gervais made about her last weekend, when he hosted the Golden Globes.
One Twitter commentator, Rachel McGrath, wrote, “If your joke is about a person’s transition, it’s probably transphobic”, to which the comedian replied, “What if it was about her killing someone with her auto?” I’ve changed – not as much as Bruce Jenner.
“But it WAS Bruce Jenner who changed”. He went on to say “What a year she’s had”. She became a role model for trans people everywhere…
The 2015 accident occurred when the SUV Jenner was driving slammed into the back of a auto on the Pacific Coast Highway in February, causing a pile-up which nudged Kim Howe’s vehicle into oncoming traffic, resulting in her death.
However, Jenner is proud to be at the forefront of the conversation, and wants to continue to spread the word.
Jenner escaped criminal charges, but was sued by other drivers involved in the crash.
Ricky Gervais doesn’t mind if you’re offended, as long as you’re offended for the right reasons.
“Suggesting a joke about Caitlin [sic] Jenner is automatically transphobic is like suggesting a joke about Bill Cosby is automatically racist”, he tweeted.
The comedian – who also mocked Roman Polanski over child sex abuse allegations and tore into actor Mel Gibson – has now defended his joke. Now Caitlyn Jenner, of course. If that is indeed the case, Ricky Gervais has plenty of time to apologize in advance once again, this time for next year’s Golden Globes show.
