Royals keep All-Star Alex Gordon with multi-year deal

The Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms with their homegrown All-Star Alex Gordon as the left fielder will re-sign with the team on a four-year, $72 million deal.

Alex Gordon will turn 32 by Opening Day and is coming off a season in which he missed two months with a groin injury.

Moore said he doesn’t know if the Royals would have won the World Series if hadn’t hit his home run in the bottom of the ninth inning that tied Game 1 and sent it into extra innings. He went to school in Lincoln at the University of Nebraska, signed with the Royals as the second overall pick in the 2005 draft and has never gone anywhere else. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Royals had not announced the contract, which was first reported by MLB.com. Only a couple weeks ago the team was reportedly told by Gordon’s camp that it had “no chance” of re-signing him as things stood. Gordon is just a career. 271 during an injury-plagued season in which he also tallied 13 HR and 48 RBI. And during the ensuing parade, hundreds of thousands of fans feted Gordon as the caravan wound through downtown Kansas City, confirming his status as one of the franchise’s most popular players.

Though recently the market simmered down, and most teams seemed interested in only giving him 3 years.

He has also been a consistent defensive asset in left field, accumulating 94 defensive runs saved (DRS) since 2011.

“Are we going to win the negotiations for the top guys?”
