The Republican presidential candidate who has defied expectations since the day he entered the race did so again Monday night after failing to capture the top spot in the Iowa caucuses.
Both Paul and Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, did poorly in Monday’s Iowa caucuses, which were won by Cruz, with Trump and Rubio finishing second and third.
“Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified”, Trump tweeted Wednesday.
Carson came in a distant fourth in Iowa and falls to last among the remaining Republicans in most New Hampshire polls. I know enough Iowans to understand how “special” they view their caucus process, and you diss them by ignoring the only GOP debate held in their state at your peril. “But I won’t say that…it’s too controversial…it’s not politically correct”, said the businessman.
Twitter was abuzz Wednesday morning over Trump’s accusations. Trump said that is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated.
Mr Cruz (45) was not a senator in 2005, when Mr Roberts was confirmed, but he did support him when he was then Texas’s solicitor general.
“We need a commander in chief, not a Twitterer in chief”, Cruz told reporters, dubbing his rival’s outbursts on social media as “Trumper-tantrums”. That poll found that Trump had an overwhelming national lead, 34 percent to second-place Cruz at 18 percent.
“We know who the boy in the bubble is up here, who never answers questions, who’s constantly scripted and controlled because he can’t answer your questions”, he said. CNN’s statement said “Dr. Carson’s staff informed CNN that he would return home to take a “deep breath” before resuming his activities on the trail”.
In another tweet, Cruz suggested Trump join the Democrat Party if he’s going to contest the Iowa Caucus vote.
Rubio’s rise comes at the expense of other candidates, though. Carson accused Cruz of “dirty tricks” the day after the caucuses, and Cruz later apologized to Carson for it. The normally mild-mannered retired neurosurgeon said that “whoever is responsible for blatant lying should be dismissed”. He’s conceded he could have done better if he’d spent more time and money in the state. Bush, Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich have largely staked their presidential hopes on New Hampshire.
On the Democratic side, Bernie Sanders leads Hillary Clinton, 58 percent to 38 percent.
“When I am our nominee I can bring this party together”, Rubio told more than 300 people at a campaign event Wednesday in Bow, New Hampshire. Cruz is in a distant second place, but could turn a surprise showing there with momentum from Monday’s win. “And I want to congratulate Ted, and I want to congratulate all of the incredible candidates, including Mike Huckabee, who has become a really good friend of mine”.
“We’re going to light all their stuff on fire, ‘” Cruz told a group in Henniker, expanding on his promise to carpet bomb ISIS “into oblivion”.
