Rupa Ganguly heckled, convoy attacked by ‘TMC supporters’

Ganguly suffered head injuries and was admitted to a district hospital immediately.

She has been allegedy attacked by members of the ruling Trinamool Congress.

After meeting the injured, Ganguly was returning from the hospital along with the mother and sister of Manjhi, when a group of locals blocked the way of her convoy and started pelting stones at her vehicle.

The police posted there intervened and restrained the locals and took control of the situation, he said, adding though Rupa was “not injured”, she was taken to a local hospital, where from she was released after a check-up.

Ganguly went to visit a woman member of her party BJP, who was attacked on late Saturday.

He said the party is also planning a demonstration at Esplanade in central Kolkata on Friday when Ms Banerjee would take oath as the chief minister. “We are still traumatised”, Ganguly said. The BJP leader had gone to Kakdwip to meet the people who were victimized during the West Bengal Assembly Elections and in the aftermath of the election results.

A day after BJP leader Roopa Ganguly was attacked on Sunday, the BJP leadership took to the streets protesting against the attack on Monday.

Sinha said Mamata Banerjee, whose TMC party has returned to power in the state, must stop talking and ensure that her partymen act properly and pay proper respect to women.

Winning 44 seats, the Congress has emerged as the largest opposition in the state.

BJP has called the incident “another incident of lawlessness” in the state and said that the party will hold a protest against the attack. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader and her convoy were attacked during the politician’s visit in the area.
